Embracing Flexibility: Why You Should Adopt a Daily Rhythm
For many stay-at-home moms who are also entrepreneurs, like photographers or small business owners, managing the all of the demands of business and family can be a serious juggling act. Striving for a daily routine might seem like the ideal way to handle these responsibilities, but opting for a daily rhythm instead can offer much-needed (and realistic) flexibility. Here's why establishing a daily rhythm, rather than a strict routine, might help you make that juggling act look choreographed.
Understanding the Difference: Routine vs. Rhythm
The terms "daily routine" and "daily rhythm" might sound similar, but they are actually very different approaches to organizing your day. A daily routine is a strict schedule with specific times allocated for each task. While this can provide structure, it often lacks the flexibility that entrepreneurs and stay-at-home moms desperately need — if you get behind or miss a timed window for a task, all of the sudden the entire day is thrown to shit.
On the other hand, a daily rhythm focuses on the flow of the day. It allows for tasks to be completed in an order that feels natural and adaptable to the day’s unfolding events, which is crucial when, the never ending, unexpected needs arise. My favorite way to “schedule” my daily rhythm is to think about tasks in an AM/PM structure with roll over flex room for tasks that go longer than expected.
Flexibility Meets Productivity
For stay-at-home momtrepreneurs and photographers, who often need to balance photo shoots with family meals and childcare, a daily rhythm allows for a more organic structure. This style of daily structure supports the natural ebb and flow of energy levels throughout the day, which are rarely predictable. It lets you shuffle tasks around based on what's most pressing at the moment, which is way less stressful and more practical than trying to stick to a set schedule that might not take into account the unique challenges of the day.
Building a Sustainable Work-Life Balance
Adopting a daily rhythm helps in setting up a more sustainable work-life balance. It acknowledges that not every day is the same and that both professional and personal lives are in constant motion. This mindset encourages momtrepreneurs to listen to their family's needs, making adjustments that benefit their health, happiness, and productivity. It's about finding harmony in the chaos—allowing for a blend of work, play, and rest, depending on what the moment requires.
Balancing life and business isn’t easy. For stay-at-home mom entrepreneurs, establishing a daily rhythm rather than a fixed daily routine can lead to a more balanced and flexible way of managing your business and family life. It really supports flexibility and taking care of yourself, making it a great approach for anyone juggling a bunch of different roles all day.
